About Beyond the Heels

The fascination of Transsexuals, Transgenders and Drag Queens has always been a subject of taboo and wonderment, not just with mainstream America, but within it's the LGBT community itself. While these misunderstandings have often led to pain, there is another side to the “Trans” community that needs to be heard. Just like every other man and women in America, members of the Transgender community have families and jobs; they live, love, learn and make mistakes like us all. Beyond The Heels…they are human. "Beyond the Heels: True Life Stories of Transsexuals. Transgenders and Drag Queens" goes behind the veil of pop culture to give an in-depth view of the lives of these courageous individuals, their challenges and their successes. GLO TV is proud to present a show unlike anything we’ve seen before, into the lives of these beautiful yet often misunderstood individuals in a show unlike any ever made before. From the days of Shakespeare, where female roles were played by men, to the mainstream success of films and TV shows such as RuPaul’s Drag Race, there has always been both a fascination and misunderstanding of what it means to be Transgender. Far more than a “man who puts on a dress” or “drag queens”, the Transgender Community encompasses a diverse and complex mix of people, all who struggle with forging their own identity in a society that consistently tries to place them in a box.

BEYOND THE HEELS is supported by YOU....and GLO TV CARES: Making Television that Makes A Difference

GLO TV is committed to creating and producing content that is socially relevant and important to the overall health and well-being of the Urban LGBT community, our family, friends and allies. GLO TV CARES was developed to speak to such programming that is not typically supported by traditional media, marketing and advertisers. As such, these programs are funded entirely by the network and caring individuals who support the development of the Urban LGBT community. In addition, most of the professionals, artists and GLO TV staff working on these programs, donate their time and talents. Our goal is to develop programming that speaks to this need and well as create a platform to bring that programming to a mainstream audience. GLO TV CARES programming covers topics as diverse as HIV/AIDS, sexual responsibility, coming out, economic independence, spiritual well-being, politics and social justice. GLO TV is committed to making a difference and thanks you for joining us.
